Garden History
The Stoddart Avenue Community Garden broke ground in early 2009 on a vacant lot just north of East Main Street. Founder Priscilla Hapner managed it for eleven seasons, and gardeners grew what they chose and shared part of every harvest. From 2009 through 2019 they donated more than 5,460 pounds of produce to Faith Mission, the Salvation Army, Victory Ministries, the Broad Street food pantry and a produce giveaway at Fairwood Elementary. In 2011 the garden earned the American Community Gardening Association’s Sustainability Award.
After Priscilla retired, Sabrina Reynolds-Wing led the garden through 2020, the last season on its blog. The lot is now a City of Columbus Land Bank parcel in the care of The Garden District Corporation, and we are bringing it back. Its next chapter will host our Urban Farmer Program alongside plots for community gardeners.
