About the garden:

Tended entirely by volunteers, our community garden grows fresh, organic vegetables that are distributed directly through our Mid-Ohio Market. It's a space of growth, learning, and connection to the earth.

From tomatoes and peppers to culturally specific produce, the garden ensures our neighbors have access to nutrient-dense foods straight from the vine.

Join Fresh Food Connect:

Fresh Food Connect links food pantries with fresh produce from backyard gardens and local farms, and The Garden District Corporation operates it in Franklin County. Potager is the proof of concept: a residential backyard growing program for pantries, markets, and a citywide network. If you grow more than you can use, download the app and share the extra with a nearby pantry.

Award-winning community garden

Berwick Alternative Community Garden took first place in the Community Garden category at the Home and Garden Show garden awards and received the 2024 Harvest Award for Education Garden of the Year from Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

A Certified WILD School Site

Berwick Alternative is a certified WILD School Site through the Ohio Division of Wildlife. WILD School Sites are the action extension of Project WILD: school grounds where students, teachers, and the community learn about and benefit from wildlife and the environment. At Berwick, the garden is part of that outdoor classroom.
